Building Readers Through Bilingual Books

Help me give my students bilingual books so they can read at home with their families. we have many Hispanic children and very few bilingual books for them to read at home with mom and dad.

My Project

My school has a large population of Hispanic children and families. The parents have a hard time reading with their children because they can’t read English. If I have a rich assortment of bilingual books my children will be able to read the books with their parents and their parents can then read the books in Spanish to their children. Reading is so important as well as spending quality time with your child. Our Hispanic parents want to help their children but many times do not know how when they can’t read the words. I have some student who are non English speakers but can read and understand Spanish perfectly. To me, reading is reading…so I need to provide ALL of my children with books that he/she can read. That is my job as an educator. To take them where they are and grown them academically. I feel these bilingual books will help me tremendously with that.
