My students are curious, creative, and full of potential. Many of them come to school carrying more than just backpacks - they carry big emotions, unique challenges, and a deep desire to be seen and heard. For some, school is the most consistent part of their day, and my classroom is their safe space. In this space, books are more than just stories—they act as windows, mirrors, and doors to other worlds.
This project will allow me to refresh and expand my classroom library with books that reflect who my students are and their unique interests.
I’ve taken the time to listen to their preferences research titles that are engaging, inclusive, and accessible. These books are handpicked with my students in mind.
Independent reading is something I’m actively working to build into our classroom culture. While many of my students don’t consider themselves avid readers yet, I’m determined to change that. I introduce them to books through engaging snippets (book trailers, first chapter read-alouds, and short excerpt) to hook their interest and show them that reading can be exciting and meaningful. When students are curious about a book I’ve previewed, it’s essential to have a copy right there on our shelves so they can follow that spark. Every book added to our library is a new opportunity to turn a hesitant reader into a confident one—and when students connect with a book, they treat it with care and curiosity.
These new books will support literacy growth and foster a love of reading. By having access to books that are developmentally appropriate and genuinely interesting, my students will build stamina, confidence, and critical reading skills. For students who struggle, having the right book can be the difference between avoidance and engagement.
