Building Pride! When it's present, it inspires individuals and teams to achieve more, communicate better, and build upon each other's strengths. There may not be one thing that will ensure that every student will beam with pride, but by sharing our stories, we will be headed down the right path.
We are a small, rural school of about 200 K-12 students.
Eighty percent of our students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. The activities and programs that we offer at our school are all some of these students have. However, just like many others, for the past few years we have been challenged with financial cuts and politics. Not only has this taken away from some of our programs, it seems to have stripped us of our pride. We need students and community members to once again speak positively about the district, staff, and students. We need to create a strong desire to exert extra effort to contribute to the district's success.
My Project
Being that school activities are all some of these students have, we want to share the proud moments with each other and the community. We have trophy cases that share athletic achievements, however, we lack ways to advertise different groups, events, and other accomplishments. We would like to put 1 Smart TV up in the foyer of our main entrance so that everyone that walks through our door is exposed to a continuous slideshow of activities, events, and other highlights of what is happening at our school. This initiative will create a positive work environment "where people are motivated by a sense of achievement and accomplishment, where people work hard because they want to, not because they have to."
Pride is intangible.
"It is a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired." By building intrinsic pride in our students and school, we will be more likely to succeed in achieving our future goals as an organization and community.
