My Students

My amazing students make up one of four fifth-grade classrooms in a diverse school of about six hundred students and one of two inclusion rooms. Together, we are part of the largest elementary school in our district.

These incredible fifth graders come to school fully trusting me to provide them with opportunities to grow and succeed.

With working in an inclusion classroom, we have a variety of needs, from low performing academic to behavioral needs. These students deserve a learning environment that matches their needs, creative lessons that challenge their thinking and continuous support to prepare them for the future. It is my goal to make sure I have all of these things in place so they can reach their full potential.

My Project

Critical thinking is something that we emphasize a lot in our classroom. I love to challenge my students with puzzles and brain teasers, in hopes that this carries over into their daily lessons. I still see students panic when they come across word problems, and I would like to relieve their fears.

I am looking to provide more growth mindset items throughout our classroom, in hopes of reminding students that being challenged is a good thing.

I would like to grow as a teacher through some independent professional development (reading Mathematical Mindset) and provide supplements to go along with what I learn. I have also added a growth mindset poster, and a place value chart that would be utilized throughout lessons. the remaining items (acrylic pens and cursive banner) are for some special activities that accelerate their success.
