This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English language learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family household incomes are below the poverty line.
My school is a large, crowded school in a very large urban district.
This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Several staff from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.
My Project
My kindergarten students have been remote learning for the entire year. We just began opening school doors for hybrid learning. Many of my students have never been to school before. Although they have learned a lot of tech skills this year, they are behind in fine moter skills.
My students need opportunties for hands on learning.
These building kits will help my students connect to what we are learning about France. It will also give them important motor skill practice. They will use logic and building skills to complete this project. Five and six year olds are not yet abstract thinkers so these materials will help their learning come alive.
