This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school was founded on collaboration and diversity and my students represent that brilliantly, combining their strong sense of where they come from with the generous spirit of working as a group to create unique and vital work. They are made stronger through their understanding that their individual voices can be synthesized into a unified whole rather than to impede success.
My Theatre Arts students have worked tirelessly over the last three years to build our program from the ground up, taking our performances from the humble cafeteria stage to larger venues.
They work above and beyond the call of the regular school day to create works that are both socially conscious and highly entertaining. Above all, they serve as exemplars for our school's mission of social collaboration, understanding that all parts are necessary for the whole to be productive and healthy.
My Project
Currently, our students are working with hand-me-down tools that are in desperate need of replacement or they do not have the right tools to get the work done properly. As they begin to design and build their sets, having the proper tools to do the work safely is paramount. We are asking for a small assortment of tools, such as a new jig saw, sanders, clamps, measuring tools and a new workstation/saw horse. Students will learn how to use these tools effectively and safely, gaining both design and construction skills in the process.
Arts programs need the proper tools to go from concept to completion.
We can give them the knowledge and conceptual practice, but until they have everything they need, they cannot do their best work. Please help our students design and create sets and props for their productions in the safest environment possible.
