My Students

Can you imagine having to learn about simple machines just by looking at pictures in a book? Wouldn't it be more engaging if you were to actually build a simple machine to figure out how it works? This is the experience I would love for my students to have.

Excitement fills the air each time students walk into my classroom.

It is because they are looking forward to a stimulating science lesson. I teach science labs to students from kindergarten all the way through eighth grade. My students are eager learners and I want to provide worthwhile lab experiences for them.

My Project

While working on a unit about simple machines, my students would benefit from having simple machine discovery kits available to build pulleys, levers, inclined planes, wheels and axles and wedges. The students will be able to show how each simple machine works and they will be able to use these models to identify simple machines in the world around them. My students need four sets of simple machines discovery kits and two sets of activity cards.

Completing this unit will provide students with the opportunity to experience first hand the different types of simple machines that make their life much easier each day.

Who knows? We might even inspire a future engineer!
