Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am excited to start the new school year with my new 5th grade through 8th-grade classes. However, since I am new to the school, that means I am starting new with resources. The pandemic has created an environment where learning will be fully virtual this year. I have to get creative introducing myself and building relationships with the 400 students in the school community. All of my young scholars are considered low-income and qualify for free and reduced lunch. The pandemic has not made this challenge easier. But, as we all know, children are resilient!
My Project
I am working with an all-new age cohort of students this school year. Moving to the K-8 setting means building my classroom back up from scratch. Now, more than ever, our younger students need space during the day where they can process their feelings and learn how to decompress from the "new normal" that changes weekly for them.
The social-emotional learning cards and cube materials I am requesting will allow me to work on one with students or in a large group.
All of the materials can be cleaned easily, which is key. The sensory fidget toys support individual student regulation when they are not ready to be verbal or working on managing emotions independently.
Right now, I do not have any sensor items or manipulatives for my students. So, every donation truly impacts my students.
