it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When I think about my class, I refer to the Star Wars quote, "The force is strong with this one" and switch it to "these ones." I teach in a Title I school with 92% free and reduced-price lunch and my students come to school willing to try their best. My students make me want to be a better teacher.
I have been fortunate to have taught for many years, but this year, the mention of anything that involves any long term, thematic projects lights my students' faces up.
Anything that has to do with hands-on lessons or activities, my students absorb it like sponges. I feel that a hands-on approach to learning will greatly benefit my students and their curiosity for learning.
My Project
Students are so into video game these days, and I used classic games to see if it would motivate and engage the students. Exposing them to classic video games certainly makes them happy, but I noticed a change in behavior; I saw collaboration, excitement and support for each other. As a result, the students enjoyed playing these classics and now they want to continue to explore the various titles of the vintage video game era.
Since the students played the games, they suggested that the entire school should experience this as well; I agree.
The students, with my guidance, will build mini bartop arcades for their school recreation room. The materials that we are asking for are essential parts for building the machines. These buttons and micro switches are what the students will use to send the signal from the person to the computer and vice versa. The students will also learn how to properly install them. Not only will they experience these games, they will help design, paint, program and ultimately test these wonder machines.
