Building Our Reading Skills

Help me give my students centers to help build their phonemic awareness skills. Students with strong phonemic awareness will develop into strong readers.

My Students

I am a general education teacher in a kindergarten inclusion classroom in a Title One school. About 60% of the students in our school receive free or reduced-rate lunches. I have a diverse group of students with varying needs. My kindergarten students arrive at school each morning with smiles on their faces and are eager to learn. Their favorite part of the day is small group and center rotations.

Learning Centers and small group are a crucial part of our day.

Literacy Centers reinforce the skills taught and help create independent learners. Providing my students with hands on activities, that are not only educational but fun increases their motivation to be engaged in learning.

My Project

I have 15 five and six year-olds! These students work hard academically as well as socially. It is amazing to watch them grow from learning letter names and sounds to putting those sounds together to read! It is such an exciting time! As you know, kindergarten is the foundation of education. It is my job to foster their love of learning! it is also a privilege to watch them grow academically and socially!

My students will LOVE the hands on learning experiences while using these materials from Lakeshore during Literacy Center time.
