Building Our New Transitional Kindergarten Classroom
Help me give my students learning materials for our brand new classroom! Some of these things are unexpectedly pricey, but necessary classroom items, like an easel to teach from. This easel is used many times throughout the day!
The 2022-2023 school year will be our first year with a transitional kindergarten classroom. Our school isn't yet equipped with materials, furniture, or supplies for a 4-year-old classroom. I'm excited to take on this classroom and loving and supportive environment for our newest and youngest students.
The classroom environment, itself, is an important teacher in the classroom.
Being intentional about the materials, colors, and curriculum is important in making sure that the environment lends itself to a comfortable learning and risk-taking space. The easel is the focal point of the classroom as much of the learning and teaching each day happens from this space. Making sure that this focal point is not overstimulating by having soft colors is incredibly important to student engagement.
In TK students are learning foundational skills. Having spaces with engaging and interactive learning opportunities like calendar activities and daily check-ins (All About Today Activity Center) will support the routines and structures that students need.
Finally, in order to be able to focus during these instructional times, some students need sensory input. Bean bags and activity balls are a good way for students to be able to play with something that won't distract the other students around them.
