Remember what your favorite part of the day was when you were in school? Most children say it's recess! For my students, we use the term gross motor play, but no matter what it's called, it's a time where the children get to run, play and have fun!
My students come from diverse families, and enjoy being active.
The children spend time throughout the day working in small and whole groups doing various activities in the classroom. Gross motor play is an opportunity for them to have a safe space to be active, to run and to play.
My Project
During gross motor play the children are able to run and play with various materials indoors, or outdoors if the weather permits. Trikes would be available during this time. The children will be able to ride the trikes around, in doing so they will learn about movement, coordination and balance. They will also be able to pretend play while using these trikes. For example, they could pretend that their trike is an ambulance going to help someone who is sick. It will definitely add memorable moments to their day!
I am quite positive that my students will be ecstatic if they had the opportunity to use trikes during gross motor play.
Some children may not have access to these types of equipment at home, and they would be thrilled to be able to use these trikes at school. Trikes will help students build healthy lifestyles, as using the trikes can be a form of exercise. They will also be able to pretend play with their peers while using the trikes which I'm quite positive will leave lasting memories!
