This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Pre-K students love coming to school to learn and play with their friends. They think our classroom is perfect. They don't see that if we had a few extra materials, we would be able to do so many more things.

They are happy with what we have, but I want to give them more.

We are the only Pre-K class at our school and my students are a great bunch of kids. They are just starting out and they are so excited to come to school every day.

As their teacher, I try to maintain that excitement so that they will always love coming to school. Most of them come from very low-income homes and have never been in school before entering my class.

My Project

One important part of prekindergarten is hands-on learning. One of the best hands-on ways to learn about geometry and measurement skills is by building with blocks. My students really need a set of nice blocks to build with in our classroom. We also need shelves to store them. Storage boxes will help us store some of the other materials we have in our blocks and building area.

My students definitely do not have toys like these at home.

So I try to provide them with as many experiences at school as I can. I want them to be building, creating and using their imaginations on a daily basis.
