My Project
I teach an amazing group of curious, creative, and energetic 5th graders. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring different life experiences, strengths, and challenges to the classroom. This year, we’re focusing on building not just academic skills but also kindness, respect, and strong communication.
This project will provide resources to help my students build a strong classroom community through engaging games, journals, and team-based activities.
With items like cooperative board games (e.g., “The Mind,” “Outfoxed,” “Race to the Treasure”), conversation starters, SEL card decks, and reflection journals, students will learn how to problem-solve, listen actively, support each other, and resolve conflicts constructively.
These tools will be used during morning meetings, class transitions, and social-emotional learning lessons. We’ll practice skills like empathy, patience, leadership, and collaboration through structured and unstructured activities.
Research shows that classrooms with strong community values experience higher engagement, lower behavioral challenges, and improved academic performance. These materials will help my students become more than just classmates — they’ll become teammates, friends, and responsible leaders.
