My Students

Have you ever had 18 people give everything they have to give - day in and day out? Have you felt the unconditional love 18 students give towards their teacher and peers and have a love of learning and want to academically do their best each and every day?

Welcome to my amazing classroom, located in the inner city of Buffalo.

Our school has a large percentage of students from low-income homes. We have the second-largest percentage of English as a new language learners in the district. As their teacher, I need to go above and beyond to give all my students hands-on, engaging, exciting resources so they can academically strive!

DonorsChoose helps make academics easier with educational materials that will give my students more resources for learning. I am thankful for this program, and the smiles it will give my students daily!

My Project

Although I cannot completely recreate the preschool experience through daily virtual meetings, I hope to be able to provide each child with a set of blocks for their home learning free exploration time. Blocks are an essential part of our preschool program. Wooden blocks are used daily in our classroom and my students never tire of them. Not only do they provide endless hours of fun, but children are also learning a variety of skills. They learn color names, sorting, shapes, and measurement. Playing with blocks helps develop oral language skills since they get to describe to us their various creations. It also helps build their confidence and self-esteem when they see what they are capable of creating.

Playing with blocks is an open-ended activity, so every day is an opportunity to build something new.

It is also a child-directed activity. They get to make all the decisions and it allows them to make choices without any reliance on adults. This is an empowering experience for young children as they discover they are entirely capable of creating something on their own. All this from a simple set of blocks.
