This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Nearly all the students who attend our school live in low-income households. At school, they work hard and continually push to make everyone they love and care about proud of them. I want these students to have every advantage possible to overcome adversity, learn deeply, and grow into successful, confident, and happy adults.

Your donation to this project will provide these young learners with a sensory bin filled with kinetic sand, sand molds, and number tiles that are sure to take kids on a sensory adventure as they explore a building, engineering, and number sense in a treasure hunt format.

Using multiple senses gives students more ways to connect with what they're learning. This type of hands-on learning makes it easier for kids to collect information, and make connections between new information and what they already know. Engineering castles, constructing landscapes, and digging around in the kinetic sand on a search for numbers will provide students with a multi-sensory hands on experience that will help them count, order numbers from least to greatest, add, subtract, and connect numeral to quantity in ways they will remember and connect to previous information. Utilizing these sensory tools to build number sense will provoke the type of imagination and creativity we hope to strengthen in our budding young STEM explorers.
