Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am thrilled to request support for our Music Club, which has transformed our school since its start in March 2024. With generous donations, we now have a range of instruments, and students are excited to explore music and collaborate. Some practiced guitar over the summer, eager to continue building their skills and ready to collaborate with peers this fall.
These resources will give our students clear direction in their musical journey.
While exploring instruments is valuable, developing musical literacy—learning chords, scales, and rhythms—will deepen their understanding and accelerate their progress. The books I am requesting are tailored to each instrument we have, including guitar, bass, piano, drums, violin, saxophone, and voice. With visuals and step-by-step lessons, books like The Guitar Grimoire make concepts like scales accessible for all levels, empowering students to learn independently outside club sessions.
With these resources, students will be able to learn fundamentals, practice at their own pace, and come to Music Club ready to apply what they’ve studied. A beginner drummer, for example, can see rhythm exercises in the book and then apply them during club time. These resources will enable students to learn better, improvise, and collaborate more confidently.
Our students come from diverse cultural backgrounds, and music offers them a new language for self-expression and connection. By becoming musically literate, they gain a skill set that enriches their academic and personal lives, fostering communication, collaboration, and confidence.
