Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is just reopened after being closed for six years. The parents and community are very excited to see their home school opening again. Our vision is that all students reach high levels of achievement in a rigorous academic program. We will provide opportunities to learn in a bilingual, multicultural, and collaborative environment.
The students in my kindergarten classroom are just beginning their journey to learn to speak, read, and write in two languages.
They are enrolled in the Two-Way Dual Immersion Program and are excited to be learning Spanish. My students come from very diverse backgrounds and have come together with the purpose of learning from each other.
My Project
Bridges in Mathematics is a "brain friendly" program that helps students make mathematical connections.
This program will equip me with activities and materials to fully implement the Common Core Standards for math.
The units help students learn to use numbers, including written numerals, to represent quantities and solve problems; count out a given number of objects; compare sets or numerals; and model simple joining and separating situations with objects, fingers, words, actions, drawings, numbers, and equations. The geometry units invite students to describe and analyze the attributes of shapes in the world around them; find, count, draw, build, and compare shapes; and fit shapes together to make other shapes and complete puzzles. Number Corner is a skill-building part of the program that revolves around the classroom calendar. These are short daily workouts that introduce, reinforce, and extend skills and concepts. Using our classroom calendar we will explore geometry, data, number lines, estimation, counting and much more!
