Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a 6th grade math teacher, finding new ways to motivate my students can be challenging. Students enjoy using technology to practice and review skills based on the Common Core State Standards. One of my goals this year is to have my students become more math proficient through technology.

My school is in an urban setting where a large number of students have diverse needs.

Because of this, I find that grabbing their interest and meeting their individual needs is best done through technology. They look forward to any opportunity to access online programs since many of them do not have Internet access at home. When my students work with technology, they become more excited, inventive, and enthusiastic about the tasks at hand. Technology also allows my computer-savvy students to use their skills to assist classmates who might be struggling. Technology limitations have affected my ability to provide my students with every opportunity to reach a higher potential.

My Project

One area my 6th grade students struggle with is multiplying and dividing whole numbers and fractions accurately and efficiently. Having a set of Chromebooks will allow me to set up a technology center in my classroom. At this center, students will work independently to strengthen basic skills necessary to learn 6th grade math content by accessing online math drills and interactive math games.

By donating to this project, you will provide these struggling students with the tools necessary to attain success in math.

The addition of technology in my classroom will benefit my students greatly and allow them to build math proficiency.
