My students need 8 packs of pencils, folders, and 100 composition books. With these supplies, we can help build great organizational skills that will ensure their future success.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Like most students, my students struggle with math. It's not for lack of effort, but right now for lack of supplies. With out proper supplies, staying organized, holding onto papers and notes are hindering my students' ability to be the best math students they can be.
I teach 94 "intensive" math students.
This means that these 94 7th and 8th grade students take two math classes. The intensive class I teach helps students build computational fluency and literacy with Math, and strengthen their understanding of basic math operations and concepts. Without the basics, they struggle everyday to master concepts within their appropriate grade level, widening their knowledge gap. They attend a school that sometimes lacks the basic supplies that allow their peers in other communities to succeed at rates far beyond our school. A significant majority (at least 90% of students) are on free and reduced lunch. The low-income community these students live in does not allow them the same access to resources and opportunities that many of us take for granted.
My Project
Everyday students enter my classroom unprepared, and it's not always for lack of effort. Some students are too proud to admit that they do not have a pencil because they cannot afford a pencil. Other students act out in class because they are frustrated. They are frustrated by not knowing important math concepts, frustrated by their peers who would rather talk than do work, frustrated by their lack of resources and supplies, and frustrated because they lack the ability to fully articulate this very frustration. I am trying to build an environment that is supportive, but values initiative. Initiative is a key component to success, and my students lack the initiative to come to class and do their very best everyday. If I can eliminate the causes of their frustration, I am sure that I can set these students on the right path to academic success. I am hoping to provide my students with basic supplies, so no student enters my classroom frustrated because they are unprepared.
As an organized person, I struggle everyday with the idea and concept that many of my students do not have, and/or do not value school supplies.
Pencils, paper, notebooks, and folders (along with a place to put all of these materials) are a key to academic success, the very basic first step of success. It is my great hope to arm my students with all of the skills they need to succeed, and that starts with supplying them with all the tools they need to build towards their success.
