Building, Making and Reading Words!

My students need a printer, a laminating machine, a classroom organizer, a pocket chart stand and reading materials, including sentence strips, pocket charts, organization bins and wipe boards.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Detwiler's classroom raised $1,146

First grade is the most important year of a child's primary education. In the months between September and June of a child's first grade year, they learn to recognize letters, put letters together to make words, read those words and extract meaning from the written word. Building strong and solid literacy skills in first grade is integral to a child's success in school. My first graders are anxious to become fluent readers this year and need your help to have access to age-appropriate materials to read, write and become readers!

I have set my first graders up for literacy success by assuring that they have 180 minutes a day, exclusively devoted to reading and writing. Each morning I work with small reading groups to target individual students' skills. However, during this time the rest of my class lacks purposeful, engaging and age-appropriate reinforcing literacy activities. With your help and support, I'd like to set up with students with literacy center activities so they can practice putting letters together to make words, play sight word bingo and use sentence strips to sequence words and sentences. My students lack access to these vital resources and materials and deserve the opportunity to practice their literacy skills with all the resources and materials they need.

With a printer and laminating machine I will be able to create durable, long-lasting literacy activities for my students to practice making words using letters, alongside other engaging activities. My students will be able to organize and hold onto their work with individual file boxes and will have access to sentence strips and pocket charts. Our literacy block will become exponentially more meaningful and engaging for my students as they will be able to put to practice the reading skills we practice during the rest of the day.

Your support and generosity will make it possible for my students to become fluent and comprehensive readers as they will have the opportunity to target the skills they need to become better readers. Thank you for your considerate thought and care and for believing in my students' ability to become readers!
