My Students

I teach twenty active and unique 3 to 5 year-old children. In my classroom, we have unique children who learn by different methods. The children in my class love to explore, investigate, and discover. Our curriculum is focused on hands-on learning and play-based learning to meet the needs of our class.

Head Start programs enhance the social and cognitive development of children and actively engage families in their children's learning so that children will be successful in kindergarten."

My Project

My students are currently participating in school virtually. I am hoping to give my students hands-on learning materials to help develop their early literacy skills. In a normal school year, we develop our literacy skills through play-based approaches. We usually dress up and use puppets to act out our favorite stories. While my students are learning from home, I would love to give them the puppet kits to create their own puppets they could use during our virtual meetings.

The puppet kits and blank books would give my students the materials to create, write, and learn with the play based approach they would get in a normal school year.

My students will learn many early literacy skills while having fun. We will first create our own stories with our blank books. Then I will have the students create a puppet of their main character from their story. During our virtual meetings, the children will take turns sharing their stories using their puppets and blank books. If we return to school before the project is funded, we will adapt the lesson to use these materials at school.
