This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I am teaching a kindergarten class in Greenville, SC. The beauty in this is that my classroom is the foundation of their educational experience! My hope is that when they walk out the door of our classroom at the end of the year they will realize school to be a loving community that values creativity, diversity, and teamwork. What I love most about my students is that they are students for life. My first class of boys is going into 9th grade and I still keep in touch with them. When you are in my class, we are family and I mean that truly.

My Project

Imagine your five-year-old self walking into elementary school for the very first time. You feel a mix of excitement and anxious nerves as you enter your kindergarten classroom and meet your classmates and teachers. For my students these feelings are very real, and for many they are also challenged with learning a new language and leaving home for the very first time.

Play is our brains favorite way of learning, and what better way to encourage language development, collaboration, and creativity from the very first day than through these super fun Lego collections.

The Build Me Emotions set will give students an opportunity to explore naming emotions and creating scenarios where those emotions might show up. The StoryTales and Lego People will make way for storytelling and be a wonderful bridge as we begin writing workshop.

To some, LEGOs might just seem like a toy, but in my classroom these toys will be the tools my scholars use to build their language skills, develop problem solving strategies, and learn how to interact with peers
