My Project

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted students across the country, including many of my students with Speech Language impairments. The closure of school campuses and CDC-mandated quarantining has not only impacted students’ academic growth, but has also impacted their social-emotional development in many ways. Many of my early elementary students are struggling with basic directional skills/concepts and achieving proper manners of articulation. Other students are doing well academically, but are struggling to communicate with others when returning to on-campus learning after being home for a 12 months or longer. As our school’s speech-language pathologist assistant, I am responsible for teaching individualized goals to help students access and progress toward the standards being taught in the general education classroom.

The materials in the cart would allow my students to grow in the area of phonemic awareness by identifying and generating rhyming words and identifying initial and final sounds in words which are critical foundational skills for reading and writing.

We will also address spatial awareness and directional skill sets by utilizing the positional word resource box. The iPad will allow me to use Boom materials, Articulation Station, as well as a variety of other applications to cover both speech and language skills across all of the grade levels I service. All materials for this project target the areas of communication necessary for students to be successful in the general education classroom setting and when interacting with peers and adults.
