Building Knowledge Through Video Games--One Block At A Time
My students need a classroom set of 15 Bloxels Boards to help them design a school-wide video game.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $848

My Students
Our inner city students come from various backgrounds, where English is not always their native language. They come to school wanting to learn and work hard because school is the safest place for a lot of them. We are a Title 1 school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
When working in the Discovery Lab, it’s about applying creative thinking and design skills to transform our STEM projects to STEAM projects, encouraging students to imagine all the possibilities when their creative thinking meshes with engineering.
Going from a STEM school to a STEAM school is an important transition to show students the role art plays not only in the design process, but in everyday life throughout our world. It's also about engagement.
When students enter my lab, excitement builds because they know they have challenges that they need to face like engineers, scientists, and many other creative professionals do in the real world. Students love working with their hands to create something or solve a problem. Our school is a wonderful place to learn because of the environment created by the staff. We show our love of learning to our students.
My Project
My students thrive when they have the ability to connect their learning, art and technology together! I would like to give them the opportunity to create a school-wide video game that can showcase the STEM concepts they are learning the classroom, while at the same time give them the chance to showcase their design ability with art. Bloxels is not just another tech toy; It's a hands-on, brains-on, creativity and technology experience.
In using Bloxels, my students will creatively thrive by designing everything from the characters and their movements, to the setting where the game will take place, and how the overall game works.
Students use the Bloxels--little colored blocks in a 13x13 grid to physically create each aspect of the game. Then using their iPads, they take a picture and upload it to the design website. Here they have the ability to manipulate the design and let their creativity go wild! They can even add in text to showcase their knowledge.
A class set of Bloxels will help my students create a school-wide game for us to play. It will showcase what they are learning in class, use art skills to design the game and use coding to put it all together!
