Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As adults, we all have our motivations. Sometimes it’s money, sometimes responsibilities, and other times we just want to better ourselves.

The plan this year is to start building their internal motivation from a young age.

The plan is simple; there is already a system in our schools where students are given a school currency. With that, students are able to attend events and do activities at the end of the month. But what about in the in-between times? My plan is to open a “store” in my classroom. Students can earn currency through positive behaviors such as following directions or active listening (they are taking notes as I teach, whether guided notes or not).

On Fridays, the store will be open and students can exchange the school currency for something they want.

The idea is that over time, we’re building good habits that will be ingrained in them over the year. Therefore, over time, they do the positive behaviors automatically. As adults, we get paid for our jobs and get raises for doing the right things and the best we can. This is going to be that for my students!
