My Students

The students in my 4th-grade inclusion ONLINE classroom are up against stressors beyond their control. This year is unlike any other, as it begins for my students, we will work towards academic growth in the morning & afternoons with school laptops, borrowed hot-spots, & online learning, stopping at 11:20 am so they can walk/get driven to school in order to pick up lunch, then return home to sign back online.

With these challenges, I strive to create an atmosphere where each child feels heard & seen, space that allows creativity & curiosity, a community that sets academic & personal goals, empowering the students to believe in themselves, raise their standards, create adaptability skills, & build routines that support a strong, healthy academic future.

Our classroom is a variety of students, with a range of abilities, family dynamics, economics, & ethnicity. Students may be setting their virtual classrooms up in homes, day cares, a parent's workplaces, or library. Students often struggle with coping skills, prior knowledge, connections, decision-making skills & emotional expression. The virtual classroom may deepen this challenge. Help us to process as we become a family & learn to express our true selves. We CAN & We WILL!

My Project

Building Inspired Students: Students will use the pens and “A Better Tomorrow Kids Journal” in their homes with my guidance online in our virtual classrooms. We will meet as part of our Writing Workshop & Social-Emotional class, in one-on-one virtual conferences to discuss personal learning needs achievements, thoughts and goals. The journal will encourage children to become more actively involved in self-expression and goal setting in this new learning atmosphere.

Students will explore understanding their current thoughts, feelings and behaviors, utilize social-emotional skills, develop writing and build routines that support personal & academic goals to move us towards positive mental health, during the challenges of navigating learning during a pandemic.

With the setting of goals, processing feeling and thoughts this journal also offers Daily Affirmations that are included to enhance positive self-talk, build confidence, and start the day with twice as much motivation.
