My Students

I am currently a fully self-contained preschool special education teacher in a Title I elementary school in Hawaii. I have preschool students with various disabilities (autism and developmentally delayed).

My students are a great bunch that have a love for learning that learn at different rates.

I want to encourage my students to be independent learners and develop an intrinsic love for learning. I feel this will help my students to want to be independent life long learners.

My students are ambitious and eager to learn. You can see the excitement in their eyes.

My Project

I would like to create an area in my classroom that fosters the Montessori approach. This will enable my student to learn through self-directed activities, utilize hands-on learning and collaborative play.

By utilizing the Montessori approach my students will learn to be independent learners, it will provide differentiated instruction and enable them to learn at their own pace.

I will create an area in our classroom with baskets that have hands-on language arts and math activities. Activities will include alphabet puzzles, matching by color, number puzzles, stringing and much more. The students will select an activity they can implement on their own, complete the activity and place the basket back where it belongs. This will teach them to be responsible, organized and be able to follow directions.
