This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is a 20-minute interactive lesson designed to help high school students develop and maintain healthy mental health habits. It includes a structured approach with a pre-survey, educational content, an interactive activity, and a post-survey to measure student engagement and learning.

The lesson begins with a pre-survey that assesses students' current mental health habits, challenges, and awareness of self-care strategies.

This anonymous reflection helps establish a baseline and encourages students to think critically about their well-being.

The lesson content covers essential mental health practices, such as proper sleep, balanced nutrition, regular exercise, mindfulness techniques, building social connections, and managing screen time. These foundational habits are presented in an engaging and relatable way, reinforcing the importance of self-care in daily life.

Students then participate in an interactive “Habit Mapping” activity where they reflect on their current habits and set goals for improvement. This group discussion fosters peer support and encourages students to share strategies for maintaining mental well-being.

The post-survey allows students to reassess their knowledge and identify specific mental health habits they plan to implement. It also provides educators with insight into the effectiveness of the lesson and areas for further discussion.

Overall, this project promotes mental health awareness and equips students with practical tools to support their emotional and psychological well-being. By fostering open conversations and encouraging self-reflection, this lesson helps create a school culture that prioritizes mental health and empowers students to take proactive steps toward their well-being. I am requesting crayons, Calm Strips, fidgets, and other social-emotional support items to help students complete this lesson.
