Help me give my students small group guided reading books, Magna Tiles, and Construction Planks for options for our morning "Soft start" S.T.E.M. bins.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher at a Title 1 School in Tempe, Arizona. Our school has a diverse and transient population, with students from all over the globe. Many of my students speak another language other than English, and reading can be challenging for them. The culture of our school is positive, loving, and accepting. It is a place where students feel safe and supported.
I have true future world leaders in my classroom.
My diverse group of third graders are extremely special in the fact that they are more than just accepting of one another. They ask questions, learn, celebrate each others' differences. Despite whatever their situation at home may be, they come into school with big smiles on their faces, ready to make the most of everyday in the classroom. From the minute they walk through the classroom door, I focus on the potential and growth of each individual student. My goal is for each of my students to leave my class confident that they can be and accomplish anything they set their minds to.
My Project
I am in need of books that would be able to help me meet each of my students where they are currently at during guided reading time to help them improve their reading fluency and accuracy to the best of my ability. Since reading is challenging for many of my students, it is important when I read with them to find books they enjoy and connect to. Also included in my project are two more options for our S.T.E.M. bin time. We use S.T.E.M. bins as a soft start for our mornings where my students get to build and create. This gives them time to settle in and get into a positive mindset, while warming up their brains for a full day of hard work and learning! Both the small group books for guided reading, as well as the additional options for S.T.E.M. bins will keep my students engaged, positive, and have a growth mindset during our time together.
