I teach a classroom full of curious, compassionate, and energetic learners who light up when it’s time for a read-aloud. Whether they’re laughing at a silly character, asking thoughtful questions, or quietly making connections to their own lives, I’m constantly reminded of how powerful stories can be in helping kids grow—not just academically, but as people.
Read-aloud time is one of our most treasured parts of the day—it helps us slow down, listen, and think together.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and bring their own strengths, challenges, and perspectives into our classroom community. What unites them is their eagerness to learn and their love for books.
This project will provide a collection of high-quality, diverse, and developmentally appropriate picture books that will:
Build Literacy Skills: Listening to fluent reading models vocabulary, sentence structure, and expressive phrasing that strengthens students’ own reading and writing.
Foster Critical Thinking: These books spark discussions about characters’ choices, author’s message, and deeper themes like fairness, kindness, and resilience.
Support Social-Emotional Learning: Many of the selected titles help children understand and manage emotions, practice empathy, and celebrate differences.
Create Connection: Stories bring us together. Shared reading experiences help build a sense of classroom family, where every child feels seen and valued.
