This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a wonderful community of thinkers, communicators, collaborators, and contributors. Each and every member of our faculty works to educate the whole child and improve the school community through various means. One very important example is our 23 raised bed garden beds. Our school garden utilizes all students to help prepare, plant, and maintain. In return, it provides fresh fruits and vegetables for our students and their families throughout the growing season.
Our students originate from at least 15 different countries and speak at least 6 different languages.
Ninety-seven percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school provides a safe place for students and a wealth of resources for families including clothing, food, and assistance with billing, housing, and medical care. It is an amazing place to grow and learn.
My Project
These LEGO Brick Boxes will change my students' education in so many ways. LEGOs not only spark creativity in students, but they can be used to teach so many different concepts.
From simple counting and addition to multiplication and fractions, these colorful bricks are a versatile math teaching tool.
The concepts of perimeter and area come to life with houses and garden fences.
Students at our school cannot get enough of LEGOs. The conversations sparked by a mutual love of construction are priceless to listen to. Students who don't share the benefit of speaking the same first language are able to communicate on a topic that highly interests them.
It is amazing what all you can do with a beautiful box of vibrant bricks.
