My Project
Our district has added a K-5 STEM classroom in the elementary buildings this year. I am fortunate and excited to be their STEM teacher. This position includes teaching all K-5 Science standards in the STEM classroom. Because it is a new program, there are no supplies to support it. I am writing grants to help make every lesson a hands-on, project-based experience for the students. My goal is to create a love of science, and engineering, as well as encourage all students to think outside of the box.
I am requesting a few STEM/Science picture books, building materials, and circuit materials.
The books will be used as read-alouds and will help tie in literacy with Science and STEM. I am also requesting nylon conductive tape and coin batteries. I would like to use these to have the students create simple circuits that will light up small lights. I have designed lessons from beginner to advanced. This way every student can create designs that will scaffold each year. Finally, I am requesting masking tape and duct tape. We create many designs, projects, and STEM challenges. With over 400 students, we go through tape and building supplies very quickly!
These students are learning how to be problem solvers and team builders. They are also learning how to take an idea and continuously improve it. The items I have requested will help build the love of learning for all students in my STEM classroom.
