My Project

In my 16 years of teaching, I've seen my students excel in academics and gain confidence because I never gave up on them. I have only worked in Title I schools throughout my teaching career. Title I schools are structured differently from traditional schools in terms of funding, academics, and socioeconomic status. Title I schools have low-achieving students and these schools serve populations in high poverty. However, I truly believe that all students can learn regardless of their adversities if given the proper learning vehicle.

You will be amazed to see when students build confidence, they pay more attention in class, get along better with their peers, and have a more focused and inquisitive attitude.

I would love to see my students exude the abovementioned qualities in reading. Many of my students’ reading abilities fall below grade level. I believe with a technology-driven classroom, students will be inspired and encouraged to want to learn to read. To do this, I would use Magnetic Drawing Boards and magnetic letters to engage students in phonics learning and phonological awareness rather than using pencil and paper.

Today's technology is a valuable tool in the teaching of phonics. It's no secret that children learn differently. Some need visual experiences. Others respond to auditory cues. Still others need hands-on familiarity. Some need all three. The same is true when children learn to read. Technology gives teachers exciting new ways to accommodate individual differences among students while motivating them to accomplish the difficult cognitive work involved in becoming phonemically aware and literate. Using appropriate technologies such as Magnetic Drawing Boards and magnetic letters, children can see and feel the concepts of reading. Children are highly motivated as they learn to manipulate letters and words in an interactive, multisensory environment.
