Building Friendships With ALL Kids

My Students

My students are amazing kids who face many challenges both at home and at school. My students all have various disabilities, but they don't let their disabilities hold them back.

All of my students are unique, but one thing is the same in each of them: they love to learn!

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and face many challenges before even entering our school. We work together every day to overcome those challenges and reach new heights. I work with about 75 special education students every week, reaching kids with various disabilities. My students love to move, explore and play.

My Project

My students are absolutely amazing. They work hard to learn every single day. We practice reading skills, writing skills and math skills, which are all very important. We also make a point to work on skills that will help them outside of school, too. For many of my students, especially my students with autism, friendship skills are something we work on daily. In order to teach my students with autism how to socialize and make friends, we have expanded our Peer to Peer program that has paired my students with disabilities with general education buddies who model typical behavior and independence throughout the school day. Our program is in full swing and the friendships are blossoming! This program has allowed my students with autism to grow in ways I couldn't have ever imagined, but their general education peers have grown as well!

Before implementing our Peer to Peer program, my students with disabilities and their general education peers didn't have the opportunity to get to know and learn from each other.

This program has helped foster friendships and we need your help to continue! We meet weekly, both general education and special education students together, to get to know each other through various activities. Some of the best interactions are during our shared snack and play time. We need your help to add to our toy collection, especially toys that encourage free and imaginative play, as well as help to re-stock our snack cupboard.
