Building Fluent Readers

My students need exposure to all types of texts including magazine articles. I would love using StoryWorks Jr. in the classroom to build fluent readers.

My Students

Dr. Seuss said “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax. All you need is a book.” That quote reminds me of a teacher I had who brought out new colorful materials in exciting ways that sparked curiosity and wonder. I would like to do that with thrilling magazines to ignite reading.

I teach twenty-five third graders who come from various cultural backgrounds and experiences.

My classroom community is like a family, we respect and care for each other. My school doesn't have extra funding to bring amazing resources into the classroom.

My Project

These thrilling magazines have multiples stories inside that will ignite my students curiosity and wondering. Each student will be able to have a copy of the magazine in front of them and we won't have to share materials. This will allow them to use reading strategies learned in the classroom to help them build their comprehension. Students will also be able to bring these Junior magazines home as well and have reading access at home.

These magazines will help enhance our study of genres in our classroom.

They will provide exciting ways to interact with a text and students will be able to learn about how a magazine is organized. I’d love for them eventually to become authors who write an article for a class made magazine.
