One of the best ways to become a fluent reader is exposure to different sources of text! My young readers need all the exposure they can get to become expressive, fluent readers.
My school is located in Southeast Georgia.
My Pre-K-Fifth grade school is a small school with a high free and reduced cost lunch rate. Many of the students are English Language Learners and would benefit greatly from their own Scholastic magazine to take home to read. My classroom has 23 young learners in second grade. They love to read and be read to.
My Project
We need more reading resources to encourage my students to become fluent readers. Reading opens so many doors to children. Understanding the world around them and being able to travel outside of their small community will be possible through Scholastic magazines. Students will use the magazines to learn and reinforce important Common Core concepts and ideas. They will work in small groups and independently using the magazine as research literacy tools for social studies and science assignments.
We need a class subscription to Scholastic magazine with the Science Spin supplement. By providing these resources for my students, you will enable them to experience the world, as well as grow into expressive, thoughtful readers!
Your help will allow my students to become much more fluent readers, improve their oral and written communication skills, and make it possible for them to learn about the world around them.
