My Students

The students I teach are between 10th and 12th grade. The students in my class have a clinical diagnosis of severe emotional disturbance. They are in a single classroom all day because they have a hard time interacting with peers and adults.

I am entering my 8th year as an ED teacher, and my students are the most inspirational students I know.

They all have hardships at home. Their lives are filled with poverty, drugs, gangs, and other difficulties. Our school is a career tech high school, and all of our students are being educated to be career and college-ready.

Typically, my students are referred to as the "Bad Students," which is the farthest from the truth. They need someone on their side. In our class, we have created that space for our students. Now that they feel comfortable with us, we want to give them the same opportunities as their peers. We believe in them.

My Project

Welcome to my high school financial literacy classroom! I work at a Title One school were many of my students come from economically disadvantage homes. I want to provide them with the tools necessary to succeed.

I am requesting donations to help fund this project to help my students to learn the value of coins, dollars and atms and classroom workbooks.

Students will be able to use the an atm and count the coins to purchase items like they would in the real world. Also I have included workbooks needed to help them have a real world situations. They will also build their social skills by working with one another,

By building their knowledge now will be a foundation for them as they enter the real world and work force. Budgeting and financial literacy is critical for students as they leave high school and enter the work force.
