This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students fell behind due to the loss of in person learning. The sudden shift to remote learning disrupted the established routines of students and many struggled to adapt to virtual classes and self-paced learning, which often led to decreased motivation and productivity. Small group instruction will be used to provide explicit reading instruction based on Science of Reading and targeted math instruction. The selected items are necessary for increasing engagement during small group instruction such as highlighting tape, post-its, write and wipe pockets, wipe-off markers, wipe off graphic organizers, Kagan Place Value Spinner, and mini erasers. Headphones will be used for students to complete reading or math assignments on Google Classroom. Card stock and laminating pouches will be used to create task cards to keep students engaged during small group instruction.
The isolation, uncertainty, and changes brought on by the pandemic contributed to increased stress, anxiety, and mental health issues among students.
The books requested will promote positive opportunities for class discussion and provide Social Emotional Learning opportunities.
Tinker Gears Set and the Craft supply center will be used as sponge activities for students who complete assignments or need time to refocus before moving on to the next task.
Additional materials which include a stability ball, calm strips, liquid bubble timer and a vibrating cushion will aid students who feel anxious and need additional support to self regulate.
