Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a very ethnically and linguistically diverse school in the Bronx. Our school is a low-income inner city school that is one of the top-performing schools in the state. I engage my students in learning activities that are both academically rigorous and personally meaningful.
My sixth grade class consists of 23 amazing students who face everyday challenges and yet, in spite of these hurdles, they are highly motivated to achieve academically.
They come to school each day excited to learn. My students are highly motivated to do well in school and to eventually go to college to become engineers, doctors, scientists, and similar career fields. They excel in STEAM subjects by approaching problem solving creatively.
My Project
My students have a strong desire to turn our classroom into a dynamic MakerSpace STEAM Classroom using inquiry-based and project-based learning activities. With additional resources like a 3D printer, our MakerSpace challenges students to think creatively and apply artistic design to building innovations solutions. My students need a 3D printer in our MakerSpace to foster their creativity and imagination!
Creating a MakerSpace STEAM Classroom will allow my students to develop into creative problem solvers and to experience what it is like in the role of scientist, technologist, engineer, and artistic designer!
In our MakerSpace, students come together to collaborate, brainstorm, hypothesize, apply knowledge and skills, design prototypes, and turn their creative ideas into innovative solutions. My students are especially motivated and excited whey they apply their knowledge and skills artistically - the "A" in STEAM. Thus, a chief aim of creating a MakerSpace STEAM Classroom is to develop students into creative problem solvers and self-regulating lifelong learners.
