it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every day I look out into a sea of eager, inquisitive faces and say, "Good Morning class." My 25 amazing, third graders attend a community public school and reside in a high-poverty area located in Bronx, NY. In school, they are learning to have a growth mindset and to learn how to live with empathy, flexibility, resilience, persistence, and optimism.
School is their second "home" and they come every day.
My students need building toys for morning time: Lincoln Logs, Picasso magnetic tiles, and Play-Doh. In order to inspire their creativity, I would like to offer them some building sets for them to build things from their imagination. Not only is reading, writing, and math important in a balanced curriculum, I strongly believe that creativity is something that has to be nurtured in children as well.
Giving them an outlet to be creative is equally as important.
It will give them a time to socialize with their peers and build on their social skills as well. I also think that creative play would be a great motivator in the classroom.
