This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have an awesome preschool program on my campus in its third year and require ongoing consumable and essential materials to provide a quality classroom experience. Specifically, for this project, we hope to maintain our effective classroom management system.
This inclusive preschool program is called ETK/PCC, which stands for Expanded Transitional Kindergarten/Preschool Collaborative Classroom.
It includes eight students with disabilities and sixteen students without disabilities. This is an innovative preschool model where students with special needs learn, play, and grow alongside their typically-developing peers. Research has shown time and time again that these inclusive classrooms are beneficial to both students with and without disabilities, while building a culture of compassion, acceptance, and friendships without boundaries.
We are a Title l school, a term that many may have heard about but may not fully understand. Title l is the nation's oldest and largest federally funded program that provides funds to at-risk students living at or near poverty. Title l aims to bridge the gap between low-income students and other students. While my school has benefitted from Title l funds, many other needs go unmet, and we need additional support.
My Project
We are requesting arts and crafts materials for our preschoolers, including construction paper, glue, stamp ink, tissue paper squares, and art trays to hold everything together. These materials will be used to make a wide assortment of art projects - everything from rainbows and butterflies to Mother's Day cards. We are also requesting laminating paper to preserve their works of art.
Working with a variety of art materials will help children develop their creativity and fine motor skills.
As they work with small tissue squares and glue sticks, they are developing their eye-hand coordination and pincer grasp skills which will strengthen the muscles needed for drawing and writing.
