Building, Creating, Problem Solving and Learning with STEM

My students need LEGO and K'NEX sets that will allow them to solve problems using the engineering process along with STEM.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom involves a lot of hands-on learning by creating and problem solving. Each day is different and is never dull. When ALL students participate in STEM they ALL achieve success.

I teach at a typical neighborhood school with a changing demographics.

We are a Tittle 1 school. Traditionally, students who start school in kindergarten will stay until sixth grade. The mobility rate is low for our students however, children do come and go as families' situations change. On our campus, we service students within the Special Education department with a variety of programs including resource and inclusion classrooms. We strive to give each child an education that meets the challenges of a changing world. Learning is about making connections, and, in my classroom, I strive to help students make connections everyday - regardless of a disability.

My Project

This project for Lego's and K'NEX will put fun building materials in the hands of every student in my classroom. Gone are the days of paper and pencil or even the traditional whiteboard and marker for solving problems. The items I am requesting allows students to work with their hands. They will be creating, problem solving, answering/asking questions and even writing out their ideas for their STEM Project(s) (Science Technology Engineering Mathematical). This project will allow students to use a variety of materials that make learning fun. My third graders will be able to make connections to real life problem solving by integrating the STEM and Engineering Process.
