My Students
My students are amazing! Our school is located in a rural part of central California in the foothills of the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. We love our community and the natural resources we have in our area.
Many of my students come from middle- to low-income families.
My students come to school every day excited to learn something new and ready to take on a new challenge. While our students have many obstacles in their lives, they persevere and succeed.
My Project
Covid-19 has created a gap between the young and the old like never before. Children are not able to visit grandparents because of this deadly virus. Social connections between multi-generations have been broken during this pandemic. There have been many unintended consequences of this pandemic and country-wide shutdown. Social connections have been lost.
This project will rekindle the importance of human interaction, relationship building, and kindness.
My project will create connections between generations, via pen pal letters to multigenerational individuals who are both family and new friends.
The book, Because of Winn Dixie, is a book that brings a young girl and her dog together with an older lady who runs a library, both in need of a new friend.
This project will highlight friendship, kindness, and the need to connect with others, especially during difficult times. My students will read this book, then reach out to older individuals through pen pal letters written on special paper, using special pens and stickers, and some students will be using the standing desk to write their letters.
