Building Confidence Through Graphic Novels & Accessible Texts
Help me give my students opportunities to foster a love of reading and improve comprehension skills by providing high-interest, low-readability books like "Don't Ask Me Where I'm From" tailored for students with learning disabilities.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of my students are eager to engage with meaningful literature but struggle with traditional grade-level texts due to decoding challenges and learning differences. This project will bring engaging, age-appropriate graphic novels, audio-supported books, and adapted texts into our classroom to help students build fluency, vocabulary, and critical thinking without the frustration of inaccessible materials.
I will pair these books with scaffolded comprehension activities based on The Writing Revolution strategies, helping students practice summarizing, sentence combining, and analytical thinking in ways that feel manageable and empowering.
I am working to empower students who are often underserved in mainstream curriculum by providing them with tools that honor both their intellectual capacity and their learning needs. I'm not just teaching reading—I'm opening doors to self-expression, confidence, and academic independence.
