My students need retelling materials to engage the english language in an individual way or with peers. With the opportunity to use the retelling puppets, students get to build confidence in their speaking skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is made up of some immigrants new to our country with limited English speaking skills. Our school is a Title 1 school which means we fall below the poverty line. Our students need to have many school experiences that are not available to them within their individual neighborhoods. My goal is to introduce opportunities for English as a second language (ESL) learners to engage English both orally and through hands-on experiences. When teaching ESL students you must provide a print and picture rich environment to aid the acquisition of the English language. One way I want to offer language experiences is by having puppets and recorded stories that will give them opportunities to hear words and how sounds are produced.
The students arrive daily ready to learn and to engage in many hands on experiences.
Each day is a challenge for the ESL student as they encounter words that are new and words that have no meaning to them. As we try to help the ESL student adjust to their surrounding and other cultures we look for ways to engage the whole family as they support their child's education. Thank you
My Project
The materials will help ESL students learn English in an efficient and effective way. The retelling puppets will provide an easiness about acquiring the new language and provide opportunities to engage with a peer of another culture.
I made a puppet theater with my ESL students in mind as I know this year in our school will be their first formal method of engaging others different from themselves.
I also know my ESL students will be hearing sounds and hearing words different than they hear daily. The opportunity to use the puppet will give them the chance to use the words learned.
