My Project

In today’s fast-paced world, the significance of community and belonging cannot be ignored, especially for our students. As their teacher, I have the opportunity to cultivate these qualities in our 8th-grade Advisory class and Board Games Club. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is through the use of life skills resources and board games.

What I love about my students is their curiosity and eagerness to learn!

They bring diverse perspectives and experiences into the classroom. By incorporating board games (even the Bean Bag Toss Game!) into our curriculum, we not only provide a fun and interactive way to learn but also allow students to express themselves and collaborate with one another. Board games inherently encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and strategic planning, which are crucial life skills.

For instance, games like "The Game of Life" teach students about decision-making and the consequences of their choices. As they navigate their game pieces through life events, they learn to weigh options and understand the importance of planning for the future. This parallels real-life situations where they must consider the impact of their decisions on their community and personal lives.

Additionally, board games can foster a sense of belonging within the classroom. They build connections with their peers, creating a supportive network. This sense of community is vital for their emotional well being. For students who may feel isolated or struggle with social interactions, board games provide an environment where they can practice communication and collaboration skills in a low-pressure setting.

Finally, using board games and life skills resources is a powerful way to enhance our students' educational journey. It nurtures their social skills, encourages teamwork, conflict resolution and fosters a sense of belonging in our classroom!
