This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are nothing short of of amazing! They are bright, curious, and love to learn. I serve 8th graders in junior high who are at a tough age where they are beginning to learn about themselves and where they fit into the world.
Their desire to learn and grow is infectious.
My students are so eager to soak up as much information as they can. We have devolved a culture of kindness, collaboration and creativity. I want to continue to inspire my kids and continue to develop their love of literacy.
My Project
My students and I started a Project LIT Community Book Club Chapter on our campus this year. This is a student-led book club. Our goals are to increase access to high-quality diverse literature and to build community with shared reading experiences. I have students coming to me every day asking for the books we are reading for our club, but I do not have enough copies for the demand. Help me, help my students have more access to an incredible and diverse selection of books.
Not only will my students have a chance to read great literature, this will provide them with a productive after school activity.
My students have been so excited to connect through literature. Promoting our book club books has helped many of our scholars find the love of reading they never knew they had.
