Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend an urban high school where 94% of students qualify for the federal lunch program. Many are first generation Americans where English is not spoken in the home.

Our school motto is, "A block long and a world wide." This speaks to the diversity of the student body and the idea that what they are learning has implications for our society as a whole and the world beyond.

Times are tough in urban education, and every penny donated will be put to good use.

This project seeks to use the school's annual Maker Faire to bring students and the local community together.

My Project

This project seeks to find a way to increase the usage of the schools existing makerspace and participation in the maker faire by both students and the surrounding community.

I strongly believe in the power of making, building, creating, designing and working with your hands.

It taps into a basic instinct all humans have, to explore our curiosity about the world with our hands. It can be used as a vehicle to unite the community and students while creating in a learning environment that promotes STEM in an interdisciplinary, real world, and FUN way. These requested tools, the Meccano Super Construction sets and the Tinkering Labs Electric Motors Catalyst STEM kits help students build cool things that they take ownership in while learning and meeting new people.
