Building Communities With Legos!

Help me give my students new Brick Legos sets to create neighborhoods and community helpers in the block area. The kids love to build and imagine and we need more Legos to get them on their way!

My Students

My 18 spunky preschoolers come to school daily ready to learn and play! Our school is located in a large urban city and is predominantly a Title I funded school.

Age appropriate lessons and hands-on meaningful experiences are key when teaching preschool children.

It is mandatory that I have enough materials for all my students in order to run my groups and lessons successfully. I try to teach independence and decision making which helps to empower the students. Their choices matter and I like to offer them many!

My Project

My students are very interested in creating neighborhoods and learning about community helpers. With these amazing Legos, they will be able to make new communities again and again. This type of hands-on learning helps foster sharing and social skills that are very important for future years of group work lessons. I also plan to use the Legos to help foster math skills in preschool. Building homes for animals, people, or whatever they choose takes measurements, estimations and trial and error to make it work. They kids enjoy using the space in our large block area to really spread out and with a few extra LEGO kits, more students will be able to enjoy the activity!
